Whilst working at JR Design Jane was invited by House & Garden to join the 2006 Show. The theme this year was the environment and ecological design. We opted to design a kitchen for the show, it is nearly 20 years ago now and at the time eco kitchen ideas were in their infancy.
A lot of research went into renewable sources, eco finishes and it was here that we really began to understand the impact of design and its ‘common throw’ nature was having on the environment. The beginnings had emerged for a passion of recycling and renewing furniture. A few favourites are the up-cycled kitchen utensil chandelier by Madeleine Boulesteix, the bottle top splash back made from crown bottle tops, the crushed can lintel and the buttoned sofa sourced from a flea market in Paris. The original sketch ideas for the reupholstery of the sofa can also be seen below.
